An organisation dedicated to saving Australian bees has created an online map designed to help consumers buy local honey.

Save The Bees Australia works with pest exterminators to relocate unwanted beehives rather than destroy them.

The honey map was created as part of the organisation’s campaign to encourage Australians to avoid imported honey.

Founder Simon Mulvany said it was well known that bees were dying around the world.

“In Australia, we’re the only continent with healthy bees,” he told 774 ABC Melbourne‘s Clare Bowditch.

He said the bee-killing disease foulbrood could be spread through imported honey.
